Black Coast

Dear friends, today we will take a look at the amazingly beautiful Halaktyrsky beach, located on the shore of the Pacific Ocean.
One of the most picturesque places of the Kamchatka Territory is famous for its black volcanic sand. The beach was formed due to frequent volcanic eruptions on the peninsula. Pouring out, the lava froze on the slopes, and mountain rivers originating in glaciers crushed and eroded the rock for thousands of years, carrying the particles into the ocean. The waves advancing on the shore left behind small particles of volcanic origin on the coastal strip.

At the moment, the thickness of the sand of the black beach is 20 meters, and the length of the coast is more than 30 kilometers. The composition of the amazing sand is distinguished by the presence of metals and minerals: titanium, vanadium, iron, magnetite. Interestingly, black volcanic sand is attracted to real magnets.

The eastern part of the peninsula, where the Halaktyrsky beach and the nearby area are located, is a seismically dangerous zone. In this area there is a risk of the arrival of tsunamis triggered by earthquakes in the open ocean. Such ocean waves can even pass deep into the land. That is why there are no buildings and structures in the vicinity of the beach, except for small beach structures.
Bear tracks can be found on the sand. In addition, hares, foxes and ground squirrels live in the vicinity, and gulls, eagles and peregrine falcons soar in the air. Killer whales and seals reign in the ocean, side by side with Kamchatka crabs and salmon.
This place is one of the few in Russia where there are conditions for surfing. Suitable waves rage at any time of the year, allowing you to come even for winter surfing.
