Notivory Foundation — a partnership to protect the Arctic

At the moment, the Fund actively supports decarbonization, cooperating with the leading and most progressive technology companies. Their goal is to develop advanced technologies of "green" energy, significantly reducing the carbon footprint. That is, the project is a kind of transfer between business and nature.

"The Arctic is still a white blank sheet on which you can still draw the sustainable development of Russia, or you can crumple it up, as it often happened before... Environmental responsibility can become a working tool for improving not only the quality of life, but also business activity in the business sector. Creating an eco-culture in which all the most important conditions for a happy and stable future would be met is the key task of the Foundation, " says Margarita Kunkova, a spokeswoman for the Notivory Foundation.

Energy problems of the North
According to official estimates, 2.4 million people live in the Russian Arctic today: this is only 2.5% of the country's population. At the same time, they provide up to 98% of the export of precious metals. A huge share of oil and natural gas. The total cost of mineral raw materials in the depths of the Arctic regions of Russia, according to the most conservative estimates, exceeds $ 30 trillion.

The energy system of the Arctic is essentially based on imported fuel: petroleum products, coal, compressed gas, as well as nuclear fuel, which is processed by nuclear power plants. It is required in significant and constant volumes. However, it is impractical to develop the energy system in its existing form for many reasons: the remoteness of the regions from each other, permafrost, high cost — the share of the transport component in the structure of the cost of fuel can reach 70%. There is simply no reliable provision for many settlements, for example, in the Arctic regions of Yakutia. The existing diesel power plants are outdated and generate electricity with long-term interruptions.
