Earth Hour

Everyone can turn off the lights!

On March 28, 2020, the annual international environmental event " Earth Hour" will be held . The not ivory conservation Foundation invites everyone to participate.

Earth Hour- a campaign that calls for turning off the lights for just 1 hour. People and institutions all over the world take part in the campaign. Each year, the number of participants increases, reaching more than 1 billion.1.jpgEarth Hour is not just an hour of darkness, it is an opportunity for everyone to realize the seriousness and irreversibility of environmental problems. The main goal is to reduce global electricity consumption. According to critics, 1 hour is not able to reverse the destructive effects of humanity, restore the planet's ecosystem, but the volume of reduced electricity for 1 hour around the world can have a positive impact on the state of the Earth. Every hour, the world's population consumes billions of kilowatts of electricity. According to the report of the International Energy Agency, the rate of electricity consumption exceeds the rate of its recovery by more than 2%. A pause of just 1 hour can reduce this gap, make everyone feel the need to consciously consume all natural resources at any time, regardless of the campaign.3.jpgThe event originated in 2004, in the Australian branch of the world wildlife Fund. Together with the advertising Agency "Leo Burnett Sydney", a concept was developed by 2005, the purpose of which was to attract Australians to serious changes in the climate and ecology of the planet. The action was named "Big click", but in 2006 the name was changed to" Earth Hour", so that the action was not regarded only as a short-term power outage. From the very beginning of the campaign's history, the movement quickly gained popularity: on March 31, 2007 in Sydney, more than 2 million residents and more than 2 thousand businesses turned off the lights in support of "Earth Hour".5.jpgSince 2009, Earth Hour has become international. In 2009 alone, 74 countries, or 377 cities in different parts of the world, took part in the campaign. Russia was no exception that year: 10 Federal subjects, 20 cities, and 40 Russian companies. In the capital, as a sign of the struggle for ecology and climate normalization, major institutions were turned off: the city hall, the main building of the Moscow state University on Vorobyovy Gory, the Kiev railway station, Europe square, etc.
At Earth Hour 2020, the notivory Environmental Foundation encourages Russian residents to think about their responsibility to nature and their role in its conservation. Solving global environmental problems starts with each of us.

The promotion will be held on March 28, 2020 from 20.30 to 21.30.
