The Notivory Foundation has received support from the Presidential Grant Fund for the project «Let's save the Red Book birds of Russia together!»

The main goal of the project is to preserve the population of waterfowl, their habitat, and nesting places, including rare birds that are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, such as the red-necked and black-necked grebe in the water area. This also applies to the territory adjacent to the artificial reservoir, created as a result of the construction of a hydraulic structure on the Simka River, through a set of environmental activities, including the installation of 15 artificial nests and cleaning at least 1.5 km of the coastline from the garbage.

The project "Let's Save the Red Book Birds of Russia Together!” is aimed at preserving the population of waterfowl birds, their habitats, and nesting places, including rare birds listed in the Red Book of Russia, such as red-necked grebe (Podiceps auritus) and black-necked grebe (Podiceps nigricollis), by carrying out a set of conservation measures.

Within the framework of the project, a research expedition will be conducted with the participation of specialists to survey nesting sites of waterfowl in at least 30 hectares of water area in order to determine the necessary types of artificial nests and select potential locations for their installation.

Based on the results of the expedition, a short film will be made about waterfowl, their habitats, and nesting places, including the rare birds from the Red Book of Russia. In order to support the biodiversity of the waterfowl, artificial nests will be installed, and informational posters will be distributed about the bird species inhabiting the area. Additionally, this will include a set of rules of human behavior in the area, including warning signs for watercraft owners.

There will also be an environmental initiative to collect trash on the shoreline of the artificial reservoir on the Simka River with the participation of at least 20 volunteers. The event will have an ecologically educational purpose, accompanied by informational materials and a useful lecture, through which participants will be able to increase their knowledge about waterfowl, including the rare species.

A special collective drawing contest with the theme of "Let's Save the Red Book Birds of Russia Together!” will be organized for schoolchildren.

To attract the attention of the general public, including the mass media, to the ‘local preservation of red-listed animals settled next to the humans’ project, an interregional online panel discussion involving ecological and environmental experts and representatives of environmental organizations will be organized in order to consolidate efforts for improving the ecological culture of the population and exchange experiences in the local preservation of endangered animal species. An informational campaign will be conducted on the Internet for the residents of Russia aged 10+. At least 500 000 people will be able to learn about the different endangered species of Russia’s birds, virtually take part in a research expedition, enjoy professional photos of the inhabitants of the Simka River water area, cheer up volunteers and participants, and also watch a short film made as a part of the project.
