The world’s first underwater ecotrope has opened in Primorye

The ecotrope runs along the bottom of Peter the Great Bay on the territory of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve. The uniqueness of this place is that cold and warm currents meet here, as well as many species of underwater flora and fauna, ranging from Arctic to subtropical.

The trail originates off the coast of Rimsky-Korsakov Island, which belongs to the Land of the Leopard National Park, which, together with the Far Eastern Marine Reserve, belongs to the directorate of Reserves of the Land of the Leopard Federal State Budgetary Institution. On the way, travelers will be able to admire the incredibly beautiful landscapes of the island and, if they are lucky, see the nests of the rare yellow-billed heron and the rookeries of the spotted seal.

To dive, you need underwater equipment and experience, because the time of the trail is about 5 hours. Of course, all this time tourists will be accompanied by a qualified instructor, but still this adventure is not for beginners.

But it's worth it! On the way, divers will see caves and grottoes, overcome underwater rocks and, most importantly, get personally acquainted with the unique underwater wildlife of the reserve. Underwater, they are waiting to meet giant octopuses that grow up to 3-5m and weigh about 25kg. The largest specimen that could be measured had a tentacle span of about 9m and a weight of 272kg. In the vicinity of the ecotrope, you can meet Kamchatka crabs, see sea stars and hedgehogs, sea anemones, mussels, trepangs, subtropical fish, including triggerfish and the famous puffer fish.
