Vladimir Putin presented the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia with a mammoth tusk product made by the Notivory project
Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud with a "highly artistic product made of mammoth tusk," Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the head of state, told RIA News.
During his state visit to Saudi Arabia, the head of the Russian state held meetings with King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"Putin presented the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia with a highly artistic piece of mammoth tusk," the Kremlin spokesman said. He did not specify what exactly the gift was, noting only that it was "very beautiful".
"The group that makes such products from mammoth tusks took up this business after all ivory trade was banned in the world, so the project is called "Notivory" - not ivory," Peskov explained. He noted that "the company directs part of the proceeds to support various funds, including in Russia, which help in breeding endangered species of animals in various nature reserves and reserves." The press secretary of the Russian leader also noted that there are quite a lot of mammoth tusks in Yakutia.
