Which Christmas tree should I choose?
The most magical holiday is coming very soon. It is difficult to imagine a New Year's atmosphere without family comfort and, of course, a Christmas tree. Let's figure out how to choose the main symbol of the New Year in an environmentally friendly way.
At first glance, the answer is obvious: you need to put up a durable artificial Christmas tree and prevent the felling of trees. In fact, everything is not so clear, because it is much easier to recycle a living tree than a plastic one.
It is most environmentally friendly to purchase a real tree from a legal seller and subsequently dispose of it correctly. Festive Christmas trees are grown on specialized plantations, like coffee or rice: the trees are specially grown, cared for, cut down and planted again.
Trees grown in this way are sold in nurseries and at Christmas markets. You can ask the seller about the availability of a delivery agreement and a bill of lading to make sure that the sale of the Christmas tree is legal. By acting in this way, you will not cause any harm to nature. But you should not buy trees with your hands – there is a high probability of poaching!
You can choose a potted tree, and then plant it in the front garden or on the plot. In addition, thuja and juniper tolerate apartment conditions well and can live in a pot for years.
If you decide to use an artificial Christmas tree, then the main selection criteria are: high quality and durability! After all, due to the variety of materials, it is almost impossible to recycle an artificial Christmas tree. Study the ads on resale sites, so you can give things a second life.
After the holidays, it is extremely important to properly dispose of the tree. In many cities, special collection points are organized, information about which is posted in local media or on government resources. If there are no reception points, it is advisable to take your Christmas tree to the forest for natural decomposition or offer it to a nursery or a nature reserve.
If you take a responsible approach to the organization of the holiday, you will not have to give up traditions and New Year's mood for the benefit of the environment.
